CodCod is probably the most important fish in human history and serves as a symbol of the wealth of the sea. Domestic stocks of Atlantic Cod are found from Maine to Virginia with most being found off New England. Domestic stocks of Pacific Cod are found from Alaska to California with Gulf of Alaska and Bering Sea being the most productive areas. Like other cold water, white-fleshed fish, cod is naturally low in calories and fat. They are generally marketed in fillet form.
