King CrabKing crab, one of Alaska's most valuable resources, are appropriately named. The average size is 11", some with a tip to tip span of almost six feet and weighing up to 24 pounds. They are found in the cold waters of the North Pacific Ocean, Bering Sea and the Okhotsk Sea. In some areas the waters are below 32°F. And covered with ice. All crabs have a hard shell and 5 pairs of jointed legs. The first pair are always equipped with pinchers. King crabmeat is packed in two forms: shelled meat and in the shell. Whatever the production form, it is always sold precooked.
